Leire Vergara is an independent curator, researcher, andfounding member of Bulegoa z/b, an office for art and knowledge based in Bilbao,Spain. She has curated several public programs and exhibitions, such as Inqualche luogo lontano: Roma, Accademia di Spagna, Rome, 2021; The Recurring Images, MACBA - Museum ofContemporary Art of Barcelona, 2017 (with Pablo Martínez); The Papers of Exhibition (1977–2017), Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao, 2016–(with Beatriz Cavia, Isabel de Naverán, and Miren Jaio); Black or White Screen: The Power of Seeing Images Together, CA2M - Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo,Madrid, 2016; Dispositifs of Touching:Curatorial Imagination in the Time of Expanded Borders, Trankat, Tétouan, Morocco, 2015; EL CONTRATO, Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao, 2013–15 (with Beatriz Cavia, Isabel deNaverán, and Miren Jaio); Form andMeaning, MUSAC –Museode Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, France, 2012–14; and Materiality, Alternativa Wyspa Institute of Art, Gdansk, Poland, 2012 (withInes Moreira, Arne Hendriks, and Aneta Szylak). Vergara worked as Chief Curatorat Sala Rekalde, Bilbao (2006–09) and as Co-director (with Peio Aguirre) ofD.A.E., Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain (2002–05). She has contributed as writer toart and cultural magazines, catalogues, and artists’ books. Vergara holds a PhDin (Curatorial/Knowledge) Visual Cultures, from Goldsmiths College, Universityof London. Since 2016, she has been teaching the course “Curating Positions” atthe Dutch Art Institute, ArtEZ University of the Arts, Arnhem.
