Artist statement

“As an artist, Larion Lozovoy primarily focuses on economic histories of post-Socialist countries in their relation to art, tracing the dynamics of cultural and industrial modernization across different historical periods. Dealing with a variety of artistic movements and personalities (be that heroes of avant-garde, progenitors of Socialist Realism, or cultural managers of capitalist transition period) he pursues contradictions that stem from their relations with dominant political forces. Thus, he often finds himself in a post-Soviet museum as a place of critical engagement, contemplating this strange container of clashing narratives – outdated or futuristic, but always challenging to the very notion of contemporary history”.
