proposals on magic
1. We live in a world saturated with magic. Paradoxically, this saturation does not mean that our world is enchanted—quite the contrary. The magic we are talking about is magic that is all too often unrecognized, andwhich we are equally unaware of, much to our misfortune.
11. I call “enchantment” the subtle, inaudible music thatdwells within us and sets us in motion. There are benevolent enchantments thathelp free and collectively emancipate us, and others, more insidious, that bindand enslave us. The sum of these forces composes the magical landscape weinhabit. This landscape is a battlefield—and it is time for us to take uparms.
14. Magic is a prism through which to view the world. Wemust learn to conceive of our surroundings without underestimating theirmagical dimension. Thus appear the spells to be cast, and the resources wealready possess to do so.
64. Once we consider that magic is above all a space forlearning, the necessity of sharing becomes evident. We must not only share ourpractices, but perhaps, above all, think together about the magic of tomorrowwithout forgetting to nurture the faith that drives us: impure, changeable, stubborn.
65. The world needs places where magic is learned, transmitted, taught, and multiplied. These are places of all kinds, sometimesphysical, sometimes metaphysical, almost always both at once. Some call themtemples, others churches, but the term “cavities” seems to prevail.
66. Cavities are cosmic clearings where the oppositionbetween darkness and light is abolished. A cavity is necessary for a school ofmagic to be born.
