As part of the collaboration between GMK and WHW Academy, from February 21st to the end of May 2020, 7ica will be transformed into a studio to be used by the second generation of WHW  Academy participants for their own artistic explorations and public presentations.

The project takes the form of a performative installation. Drawing inspiration from Latin American telenovelas and the visual influence of cultural consumption through mass media across continents, the gallery is unfolded into a social space, a faux tropical paradise, or a cheap and exaggerated re-enactment of an imported melodrama. This space wishes to explore the similarity between processes of nostalgia and exotification: the construction of blurred narratives of the past and Otherness: other spaces, other cultures, and the comical generalizations that these (mis)constructions may generate.

 How to become invisible, Act 1. is dedicated to cross-cultural relationships and conditions of cultural labor around the world.  During the five days of painting sessions, the artist will invite participants from the local art scene to make their shadow portraits and discuss their working conditions in culture. ‘Which part of their work remains in the shadow? The artist will make an installation using the materials gathered during these sessions.
