As part of the sixth generation of the WHW Akademija, we continue our Evenings with the WHW Akademija with a lecture by the artist Petra Mrša, an alumna of the WHW Akademija. She is going to present the connections between her work and the broader context of the educational system within which she has been working for many years. Her work results from a careful staging of situations that perceive the artistic context as a space for expanding and provoking experiences. Through thought and physical experiments that she suggests to herself and/or her collaborators, her process opens up the space for creating new realities in which horizontality, radical hospitality, and embracing the unfamiliar shape interpersonal dynamics. The acquired embodied knowledge celebrates vulnerability and imagination, while its documentation provides a platform for relating not only to other humans, but also non-human forms of intelligence.

Petra Mrša (1985, Rijeka) holds degrees in photography from the Academy of Dramatic Arts, in sociology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and in psychology from the Croatian Studies in Zagreb. Her works have been shown at important exhibitions such as: The Lighted Room – Women’s Photographic Practice in Croatia; The OSTRALE Biennale 023; Visible, Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb; Where Is This Cloud Floating?, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka; The OSTRALE Biennale 021, Words for Seeing, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka; Symptoms of the Future, Vig Special Invitation, Ringturm, Vienna; There Is Something About My Family, FOTODOK, Utrecht; Different Worlds: Young Contemporary Photography, Photon – Center for Contemporary Photography, Ljubljana; ESSL Art Award, Museum of Contemporary Art; Un anno di portfolio, Centro Italiano della Fotografia d’Autore di Bibbiena. She was one of the participants of the first generation of the WHW Academy. In 2020, she was nominated for the Radoslav Putar Award, and has received a number of awards: VIG Special Invitation at ESSL Art award 2015, Ex aequo at the 24th Slavnon Biennial 2015, Best portfolio at Savignano Immagini Festival 2012, Photodays 2010, Photodays 2012. Since 2014, she has been working as an assistant at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka.
